• Making space to create

  • About Popcorn + Crocodiles

As a working mum of two young ones, life is busy and I struggle to find the time I’d love to devote to crafting and making. For years I’ve also struggled to feel comfortable describing myself as ‘creative’; despite taking lots of evening classes and making things I still feel a bit of a fraud! The more time I’ve spent reading about how to become more creative, the more it’s become evident that practice (and perhaps confidence!) is the key. So, starting Popcorn + Crocodiles is a commitment to myself, to make time and space to develop and nurture a more creative and fulfilling path in my life. I’ll share my makes and inspiration, and I hope you enjoying sharing them with me.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Emily x

    My Adventures in Yarn journey

A few years back I started to look for a way of keeping on top of my projects, quickly find what I need and maximise my productivity. I couldn’t find what I was looking for so I designed my own notebook for yarn enthusiasts! Since then I've added in a mini version to pop in a bag or pocket when you're out + about, and next to follow were organiser formats which allow a constantly up-to-date portfolio of projects, dreams and plans.

Here’s some of what you’ll find inside the organisers:

    • Lots of space to record your project notes, plans of what you plan to work on next or future design ideas.
    • Sections to attach yarn samples and reminders, and removable labels for tension squares
    • Pages to record to do lists, monthly reminders and goals, wish lists of yarns, patterns or accessories, your achievements, reminders of things you want to check out, and your goals
    • Plenty of plastic pockets for storing useful bits and pieces, anything from yarn bands, to yarn festival acquisitions!

I’ve tried to combine useful and practical features with simple, inspiring and adaptable design.

You can read more about using the organiser in this blog post.

    Why Popcorn + Crocodiles?

Well, they’re a couple of my favourite crochet stitches, and I wanted a name that reflected my interest in crochet, while hopefully being a bit playful and sticking in the mind! The downside is that the web address takes a bit of typing ….

    • About me

I’m Emily, enthusiastic crocheter, newer knitter; passionate about creating and all things yarny!

I love blues and greys, frosty mornings, gin & tonic, coffee & cake. Home is the beautiful city of Edinburgh, which I share with my other half and two wee ones, so life is lots of fun, if a little too hectic at times!
